“Reading felt like a daytime dream in a secret land. Nobody but I knew how to get there, and nobody but I owned that place.”—Aminata Diallo - Somebody Knows My Name by Lawrence Hill (via sleepydumpling)
“Difficult as it is to believe, not everyone loves cats. Genghis Kahn was a famous cat-hater and so were Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar. It may be that men with dreams to dominate the world can’t get used to the idea that cats won’t submit to them. The same streak of ailurophobia (cat hate) affected the personalities of Napoleon Bonaparte, Benito Mussolini, and Adolph Hitler.”—
Last night I had a dream that there was a massive fire on the Gold Coast that destroyed half the city. Dave and I were helping to find survivors. We found a little boy, about a year old, and were trying to find his parents but couldn’t find them. He was really sweet, such a lovely little boy, and I was getting attached to him despite myself. When we couldn’t find his parents we started looking for a social worker to take him instead. But none of the ones we found wanted to take him. I was getting more and more upset, because I wanted to keep him and look after him myself, but I was really worried his parents were still alive or I’d get in trouble later if I did that, so I wanted to make sure I was doing the right thing. I just kept walking around with this sweet little boy, trying to find a social worker to take him and getting more and more upset, until I woke up. Sigh.
